CFC’s Women’s Shelter, Sanctuary House, Re-opens

January 18, 2018

Rochester, NY… Joining CEO Marlene Bessette and Vice President Lisa Lewis to kick off our opening ceremony will be Bishop
Salvatore Matano, Executive Commissioner Samuel D. Roberts and area dignitaries and representatives from
our Local, County and State supporters.

This beautiful shelter for women, and women and their children, was opened in 2002, and during 2017
was renovated with over $1.7 Million of support from New York State’s Office of Temporary and Disability
Assistance and Catholic Family Center. Through the HHAP (Homeless Housing and Assistance Program), this
project also expands our capacity to serve these vulnerable individuals and families, increasing licensed
beds from 43 to 47 while enhancing privacy and improving heat, plumbing, window sealing and insulation
infrastructure. This facility is accessible and has been adapted to the needs of our clientele with a
trauma-informed approach.

Our goal is to provide homeless families and individuals with shelter while helping to move them into permanent housing.
We are excited for the continued improvement of our programs to provide effective services to the people we serve.
